Day 1 - depart to Peru - arrive Lima
Upon your arrival into Lima you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Miraflores for your overnight. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 - Lima - Iquitos - ExplorNapo Lodge
You will be met and transferred to the Lima airport & the local airline flight departing to Iquitos. Here the
Explorama staff will meet and transfer you to their local dock where you will board the large aluminum speed launches that will take you for your journey down the Amazon then up the Napo River to the Amazon Rainforest Reserve and ExplorNapo Lodge. Afternoon visit to the ReNuPeRu Ethnobotanical Garden located next to ExplorNapo and tended by a local shaman. This garden is used to show visitors rainforest plants used in modern medicine as well as examples of native plant remedies which science may utilize in the future. Evening excursion by open boat along the Sucusari Stream in search of caiman and to enjoy the night sounds and if the sky is clear, the stars of the Southern sky. Overnight at the Explore Napo Lodge. Day 3 - Canopy Walkway - ExplorTambos camp
Morning hike to the Canopy Walkway, a suspended bridge spanning 500 meters ( one-third of a mile ), connected by tree platforms and reaching a height of over 35 meters (115 feet ) above the ground. Here you observe a "bird's eye view" of part of the rainforest rarely seen by man but accessible without any type of climbing skill or equipment. Afternoon hike to the secluded Tambo clearing where small sleeping shelters offer an intense overnight camping experience in the rainforest. A night walk provides the possibility of seeing animals rarely seen during the day. Overnight at the ExplorTambos camp. ( B/L/D )
Day 4 - ExplorTambos camp
Full day of excursions in the area for possible spotting for sloth, birding and fishing for piranha or observation of wildlife. Overnight at the ExplorTambos camp. ( B/L/D )
Day 5 - Cieba Tops Lodge
Morning excursion to a local river village to learn about the simple way of life of the people of the rainforest called "ribereños". Since it is now summer school will not be in session but you will be able to see the school building and the children always come out to say hello when visitors arrive. Afternoon boat trip back to Ceiba Tops passing the town of Francisco de Orellana, where a statue is erected to the intrepid explorer who became the first European to see the Amazon River in 1542. At Ceiba Tops, private rooms with air conditioning and hot water provide more of the comforts of home and a start to your return to civilization. There will be time to enjoy a quick swim in the pool or a relaxing hour in the hammock house watching the Amazon go by before dinner. Overnight at the Cieba Tops Lodge. ( B/L/D )
Day 6 - Cieba Tops Lodge
Morning visit to the neighboring Yagua Indian Community, an explanation of their native culture, blow gun demonstration and a chance to purchase or trade for their crafts. Afternoon hike in the beautiful primary rainforest reserve surrounding Ceiba Tops where many huge trees are festooned in epiphytes. Remainder of the day on your own. Overnight at the Cieba Tops Lodge. ( B/L/D )
Day 7 - "Bushmaster Trail" - Missouri Botanical Gardens - Iquitos
Morning hike along the "Bushmaster Trail" where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens found one of the world's highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare. Your guide will point out many examples of native plants used as remedies by local people. After lunch, depart by boat back to Iquitos and then to the Dorado Plaza. Mid afternoon arrival into the Overnight at the Dorado Plaza. ( B/L )

Day 8 - Iquitos - MV ARCA - Marañon River
Morning on your own. Mid day transfer to the private dock area of the MV ARCA. Here you will board the M/V ARCA for your Amazon River cruise to Yurimaguas. Departing Iquitos at approx.11:00 am. you will sail up the Amazon River from Iquitos, past small farming villages. Relax as the ship passes this sparsely populated areas while enjoying a afternoon lunch. Later a shore excursion at the Tahuayo River for a short visiting time. Later that evening, we will pass the juncture of the Ucayali and Marañon Rivers, to the beginnings of the Amazon. ( CB/L/D )
( The M/V ARCA is a 32 passenger steel hulled river-boat which was rebuilt in 1988. In 1995 it was refurbished for speed and comfort on the Amazon. Its 10 twin upper and lower with 2 triple/quadruple lower cabins are all fitted in Cedar & Amazon Mahogany. Each cabin is air-conditioned and has private bath & shower. There is an enclosed air conditioned dining room, a lounge/bar, and sun deck areas, both covered and uncovered. )
Day 9 - Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Marañon River
After breakfast we continue on the Marañon River for our first stop in the giant 5+ million acre Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. This is an area protected by the Peruvian government to preserve the flora and fauna of this unique area. The Pacaya Samira is known as the "Espejo de la Selva" (the Mirror of the Jungle) for it’s black water rivers and lakes. The reserve contains 85 lakes and is the home for 449 bird species, 250 fish species, 132 mammal species (13 of which are primates plus 2 species of fresh-water dolphins) and 150 reptile and amphibian species. Tourism plays an important role here as it brings in funds to help support various scientific programs and promote awareness of the wildlife and plant resources and their need for protection and preservation. Today we will have time to stop at San Martin Lake, a vast black water lake with ample bird and aquatic life. Visit a native settlement in which the people live in harmony with their environment. Afterwards dinner will be on board the ship and continue to sail deeper into this vast nature reserve. Evening we will anchor in the middle of the Samiria – and later take a excursion away from the ship by canoe for possible viewing of nocturnal wildlife and to appreciate the sounds of the jungle. Day 10 - Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Marañon River
Today we will continue in the Samiria with an early morning bird watching excursion and later try our luck with fishing for the fabled piranha. Afterwards we will return to the Marañon River and sail up river until the afternoon when we arrive the river town of Parinari. This is a typical river port where one will find a large variety of fruits and jungle products for sale and trade. Late afternoon we will continue sailing up the Marañon River. ( AB/L/D )
Day 11 - Nueva Esperanza - Marañon River
Early morning arrival at Nueva Esperanza. We will depart by small boat into the second area of the reserve where we will visit, Cocha Pinchi. This is a seldom visited area by tourists and as well is a good area to view monkeys and another opportunity of fishing for Piranha and other fish species. Afterwards return to ship and continue up river overnight. Evening listening to the animal habitants of the area. ( AB/L/D )
Day 12 - Huallaga River - Marañon River
This morning we will arrive into Lagunas, our third stop in the Reserve. We will take a full day trip to Tibilo Creek and Guard Station. First by small, motorized, two-seated vehicles and then by canoe we will take you deep into this attractive area of nature at it’s finest. Mid day we will have a picnic style lunch and time for a swim in a dark water lake. Late afternoon return to the ship and continue up river. Later that night sail out of the Marañon river and into the faster moving Huallaga River. ( AB/L/D )
Day 13 -Marañon River - Yurimaguas - Tarapoto - Lima
Today we will arrive to the river port of Yurimaguas at the base of the Andes. After our breakfast on board we say farewell to the ARCA crew and depart by car or Land Rover to the city of Tarapoto ( Approx. 4 hrs) on our afternoon arrival you will have time for independent tours or shopping before being transported to the Tarapoto airport and departing flight to Lima.
You will be met and transferred to the hotel of choice in Lima. Overnight at the hotel. ( CB )
Day 14 - ( free day in Lima - depart Lima

Day 15 - Lima - arrive into your home city
