The colonial city of Ayacucho or also known as "The City of Churches",
is situated in the central highlands at an altitude of 9,000 ft. above sea level and is one of Peru’s most picturesque cities.
It is famous for its beautiful "33" Colonial churches and the annual huge Easter procession known as "Semana Santa".
Here during the "Holy Week" thousands of national and international travelers descend on the tiny Andean town and watch or partake in the religious ceremonies that proceed in the streets
past the churches and the thousands of on lookers. A true experience that one must see while in Peru during the Easter week. |
