Discover the "Real Guatemala" in this week long program that
allows you to enjoy the history of the Mayan and their past in a "not so fast pace". First a focus on the Cuzco area
and the archaeological ruins of Sacsayhauman Park then continue to the famous Pisac Market
where you can experience the cultural aspect and barter with the local's. Later proceed to the
famous Inca Fortress of Ollantaytambo where the Inca fought their final battles against the Spanish.
Onward to the "Lost City" of Machu Picchu where the guide will explain the history and myths of the site.
Of course the night is spent at Machu Picchu, for the spectacular view at sunrise! Spend a leisure day in Cuzco and shop or
re-view the areas that interest you most. Complete the program with a Colonial tour of Lima and the choice of any Museum.

Day 1 - depart to Guatemala - arrive Guatemala City
Depart from the home city on Continental (*or any choice of carrier ) to Guatemala where you will
be met and transferred to the hotel located in Guatemala City. Overnight at the hotel. (D)
Day 2 - Guatemala City - Las Verapaces - Candelaria
Breakfast and early morning departure for the land of the Quetzal. The quetzal is the national bird
of Guatemala and the namesake of the country’s currency, whose long green plumes were prized by
Maya kings and were one of the most pretigious trade items that flowed along the river trade route.
With some luck we may have the chance to see these magnificent birds at the Biotopo del Quetzal in
the cloud forest of Las Verapaces. Visit the park. Lunch and continue on to the Caves of Candelaria,
among the most stunning natural features in the Maya World and sacred to the Maya.

Day 3 - Ceibal - Punta de Chimino
Breakfast and early morning transfer to the frontier town of Sayaxché where we will take a boat to
the archaeological site of Ceibal. Visit the site admidst the surrounding jungle. Box lunch will
be provided. Return to boat for continuing on to the archaeological site of Punta de Chimino.
Visit the site still under excavation. Dinner and overnight accommodations in the charming eco-lodge
set in your own private jungle atmosphere. (CB/L/D)
Day 4 - Lake Petexbatun - Aguateca - Sayaxché - Flores
Breakfast and early morning departure for the archaeological site of Aguateca.
Visit this spectacular site which overlooks Lake Petexbatun which made it both a beautiful capital
and an impenetrable fortress. Box lunch. Transfer to Sayaxché and continue on to Flores. Free late
afternoon to visit the Island of Flores. Dinner and overnight accommodations. (CB/L/D)
Day 5 - Tikal - Flores
Breakfast and early morning departure for the archaeological site of Tikal, the most powerful city
of the Classic period. Declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1979. In the park you will visit
the Plaza of the Great Pyramid of the Lost World, the Plaza of the Seven Temples, Temples I, II,
the Twin Pyramid Complex and the Acropolis among others. Lunch within one of the charming restaurants
in the park. Transfer to Flores. Dinner and overnight accommodations. (CB/L/D)
Day 6 - Lake Izabel - Livingston
Breakfast and early morning transfer to Rio Dulce. Visit by boat the Rio Dulce and Lake Izabal where
beautiful canyons and tropical animals are a part of this scenic view. We will visit the town of
Livingston which legend narrates that is built on bottles of rum left by the Carribean pirates of
the 1700’s and the Castle of San Felipe which guards the entrance of Lake Izabal. Lunch in Livingston.

Day 7 - Copan, Honduras - Las Sepulturas - Rosalita Pyramid
Breakfast and early morning transfer to Copan, Honduras. On the way visit the archaeological site of
Quiriguá where the largest stalae of the Maya world can be found. It was declared a World Heritage
site by UNESCO in 1979. In the park you will visit the Acropolis, the Central Plaza and the Juego
de Pelota (soccer field). Quiriguá conquered Copan, Honduras in 730 A.D. Lunch in Copan. After lunch
visit the archaeological site of Copan, Honduras. There you will see the Main Acropolis and the Central
Plaza which was the regligious and political center of the Copan kingship; Las Sepulturas a
residential complex where people of different strata lived. You will see the reconstructions of
dwellings where the common peasant lived, as well as the home of a well to do Scribe; finally the
Los Sapos area, where Mayan women reputely went to give birth to their offspring. You will also see
the only Maya pyramid left intact called Rosalita.

Day 8 - Copan - Rio Hondo - Guatemala City
Breakfast and early morning transfer to Guatemala City. Lunch in Rio Hondo. Continue on to Guatemala City.
